About Us

The Queensland Spatial Information Council (QSIC), working with government, industry, academia and the professions, is responsible for driving major spatial information initiatives within a business environment that optimises the collection, management and use of Queensland’s spatial information resources.

QSIC facilitates and promotes a whole-of-industry approach to ensure spatial information is accessible and used to support business, lifestyle and a sustainable environment across Queensland.

The GILF project has its genesis in seeking a legal solution to the ‘future directions for spatial information: improved access and greater re-use’. From 2004 through to February 2009, the GILF project team was situated in the Office of Economic and Statistical Research, Queensland Treasury. In March 2009, the Queensland Spatial Information Office relocated to NRW to enable it to re-focus its leadership in Queensland in spatial information. Various strategic projects also transferred to NRW at this time, including GILF and the GILF for Water Project, as NRW plays a key role in the Australian Government’s National Water Initiative.
